ഏത് നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലാണ് പതിമൂന്ന് എന്ന സംഖ്യയോട് ചില മനുഷ്യർക്ക് ഭയം തുടങ്ങിയതെന്ന്  കൃത്യമായി ചരിത്രത്തിൽ  രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടില്ല. എങ്കിലും നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളായി മനുഷ്യർ പറഞ്ഞു പേടിപ്പിക്കുകയും, അത് ചില ബിസിനസ് കാര്യങ്ങളിൽ വരെ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നത് വളരെ സാധാരണ കാര്യമായി പല സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലെയും പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിലെ നിരീക്ഷണങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും മനസിലാകും. ചെറുപ്പത്തിൽ ക്രിക്കറ്റ് കളിക്കുമ്പോഴാണ്  ഞാൻ ആദ്യമായി 13 എന്ന സംഖ്യ വില്ലനെ കുറിച്ച്  ആദ്യമായി  കേൾക്കുന്നത്. ആ സന്ദർഭങ്ങളിൽ ഞാൻ അത്ര കാര്യമായി എടുത്തിരുന്നില്ല. എന്നാൽ വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് അമേരിക്കയിൽ ചില ഹോട്ടൽ മുറികളിൽ താമസിക്കേണ്ട സാഹചര്യം വന്നപ്പോഴാണ്, ഇത് ലോകം മുഴുവൻ വ്യാപിച്ച ഭയത്തിന്റെ വൈറസ് നമ്പർ ആണെന്ന് മനസിലായത്. അവിടുത്തെ ഹോട്ടലുകളിൽ പതിമൂന്നാം നില രേഖപ്പെടുത്താതെ പതിനാല് എഴുതി കാണിച്ചത്  കണ്ടപ്പോൾ എനിക്ക് വലിയ രസം തോന്നി. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ മാത്രമല്ല അമേരിക്കയിലും അന്ധവിശ്വാസികൾ ഉണ്ടല്ലോയെന്ന്  ചെറുതായൊന്നു സമാധാനം കൊള്ളുകയും ചെയ്തു.            ...
